What is Iko! Tours?

Iko! Tours is an organization that specializes in offering day trips to language school students in the Montreal area.

Is it “Iko! Tours” or “Iko! Excursions”?

It’s both.

What does “Iko!” mean?

“Iko” is a Japanese word.  It means “Let’s go!” in English (“Vamonos!” en Español, “On y va!” en Français, “Auf gehts” auf Deutsche, Nihon go de wa:  “Ikimashou” no “Iko!” no koto.)  I chose this word as the name of the company because it’s easy to remember, and because I love Japanese animation.

Can I join the trip?

Yes!  Although we focus mainly to a young adult crowd, Iko! Excursions is available to everyone.

How do I make a reservation?

The easiest and best way to make a reservation, is with your language school activity coordinator.  You can also make an online Reservation.

Where is the departure point for your trips?

The departure point is always 1255 Peel Street (across from the Peel Pub, on Peel street between Ste-Catherine and Rene-Levesque).

What time is the departure?

The departure for our trips are the following unless otherwise specified.

  • Niagara Falls and Toronto – 7am
  • Quebec City and Montmorency Falls – 8am
  • Ottawa and the Museum of Civilizations -9am
  • New York City – 7am
  • Mont-Tremblant – 9am
  • Sugar Shack – 11am
  • Canada Day in Ottawa – 1:30pm

How often is there an excursion?

On the weekends – mainly on Saturdays.  Please see our Welcome Page Section of our website to find out what’s next.

What are your most popular trips?

Niagara Falls Weekend in the Summer is our most popular trip.  After that, Quebec City and Montmorency Falls, and Ottawa and the Museum of History, and New York City are also very popular.

We have several “specialty” Tours throughout the year as well which you should not miss.  They are:

Winter:  Quebec City Ice Hotel and Winter Carnaval, Ottawa Rideau Canal Skating, Sugar Shack

Spring/Summer:  Ottawa Tulip Festival!, Canada Day in Ottawa, Hockey Night in Ottawa, Niagara Falls Three Day Extravaganza, Quebec City Festival de la Nouvelle France, Waterpark St-Sauveur

Autumn:  Mont-Tremblant Fall Colours! (My personal favourite), Canadian Camping (My other personal favourite)

What if I have to cancel a trip?

You can cancel a day trip up to 24 hours in advance, and you will get a 100% refund.  No questions asked.  Thank you for your interest in our company.  And thank you for telling us as soon as possible.

For overnight trips:

  • If you can cancel 7 days in advance – 100% refund
  • If you can cancel 2-7 days in advance – 50% refund OR you can transfer your trip to another date at no extra charge
  • 2 days or fewer (or no shows) – no refunds will be given

For example, if you sign up for a Niagara Falls trip on Saturday, February 7; but you realize on the Thursday before the trip that you can’t come because of another engagement, you two options.  Either you can have a 50% refund; OR you can transfer the value of that trip over to another date.

Once it is Friday however, we can no longer allow changes to an overnight trip; and there will be no refunds given after that point.  For any exceptional cases, please contact us immediately.  Thank you for your understanding.

What if I make a reservation, but I miss the trip?

We hope you don’t miss the trip!  But, in case you do, here is our policy concerning no shows:

  • If you miss a Day Trip because you were sick – and you inform us within 24 hours after the end of the trip – you can transfer that lost credit over to another trip at no extra charge

For example, if you sign up for a Quebec City Trip on May 4, but you miss the trip because you were sick, this is what you do:

  • Send us an email within 24 hours – explain to us the situation
  • We can transfer your credit (in this case, $65) over to any other trip of your choice

If you cannot take advantage of this offer because you are leaving Canada, please let us know of your situation.  We will try to do everything possible to make sure that the situation is resolved fairly.

  • If you miss a Weekend Trip for of any reason – officially there is no refund policy.  But please contact us within 24 hours after the end of the trip, and we will try to arrange something.  Thank you for your understanding.

Where is your office?  Can I come and pay at your office?

Actually, we don’t have an office.  Our office is this website.  You can pay online by credit card, or with your activity coordinator at your school, or in cash on the day of the trip.   Please contact us if you have any questions about payments or reservations.

Is Iko! Tours a licensed tour operator?

Yes.  Iko! Tours is a licensed tour operator recognized by the Office de la Protection du Consummateur (Permit #703 000).  That means that all prices include travelers contributions to the FICAV – le fond d’indemisation du client des agents de voyages.

Why are your prices more expensive than some of the Chinese agencies that I’ve heard about?

This is a great question!  There are many reasons for this.  But in general, remember that you get what you pay for.  Why is a hamburger at McDonald’s less expensive than a gourmet hamburger made by hand by a burger professional at a local restaurant?

We believe we offer a better service.  Please see our Facebook Reviews if you are curious.  Thank you for your support!  🙂

Where do the international students come from?

Iko! has been running for over eight years now, and has had thousands of students join.  Literally, every country that you can think of has been with us.  But, the biggest groups represented in order are:  Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Venezuela, Japan, South Korea, Switzerland and Germany.

Do you accept children on your tours?  Do you offer any discounts for children?

For most of our tours, we accept children who are accompanied by parents.  And we do offer some discounts for children.  Please email us if you have any questions about discounts for children.  Thank you!

Do you offer any discounts?

Yes.  On all of our trips, there is an “Early Bird” discount special.  Reserve 1 week early, and you get a $5 discount.  We also offer a “Mega Early Bird” discount for most trips.  Reserve 1 month early, and you get a $10 discount.

Is there an emergency number?

Try Marcus’ cell:  514-298-3342.

Who is Marcus?

Marcus is the founder and president of Iko! Excursions.  He is also the tour guide for many of the trips.  He speaks English, French, Spanish, Japanese and German.  He has travelled to Mexico, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, and all over Europe, United States and Canada.  He loves to play hockey, chess and Jeopardy.  He loves reading and watching movies.  Ask him anything you want!

What is Marcus’ personal favourite trip?

Marcus loves the Mont-Tremblant Fall Colours trip.  The Fall Season in Quebec is amazing.    His second favourite is Niagara Falls.  Marcus LOVES Niagara Falls.  His third favourite is New York City.  Marcus’ dream is to go over Niagara Falls in a Barrel.

Where does Marcus get his SUPER COOL umbrella?  And why a White Umbrella?

Ah, well, that is a secret my friends.  I’ve lost that umbrella about 16 times; all over the world.  And guess what?  It always comes back.  I think it might be magic.  (Either that, or I just have 20 of them sitting here in my office ready to bring on every trip).

We carry an umbrella on the trip so that you can see where we are even through the crowds and at a distance.

Thank you for choosing Iko! Tours everyone!  If you have any questions, please contact us.
